A new study yesterday revealed that playlists are outstripping albums in terms of listenership so what does Spotify do today? They launch 'Daily Mix' globally on iOS and Android devices.
From today Daily Mix will appear at the top of your library and is basically a group of algorithm driven mixes generated from the users most played songs that combine those favorites with new tracks.
Daily Mix claims to solving a common problem they seemed to have identified: despite the multitude of playlists available, too often nothing fits your personal taste; and constantly refreshing your own requires time and research.
How nice. It's both brilliantly convenient and assuming the average user is extremely lazy when it comes to curating their own playlists.
It is claimed that Daily Mix will evolve in synchrony with the users musical tastes. You have been given the choice wheter to keep or scrap any new songs that appear on your mix by either pressing “Ban” it to remove it from future playlists or “Heart” it to add it to your collection. Spotify algorithms clearly have a sense of humour as I found Soulja Boy's 'Crank That' in Daily Mix 1. Apart from that the selection of new songs is not too shabby. I kind of feels like an updated version of my experience shuffling through my ITunes library.
New users can access Daily Mix after approximately two weeks of listening.
